A LONG list of amendments to Rappahannock’s new zoning and subdivision ordinances was approved by the Supervisors following a joint public hearing with the Planning Commission last Thursday. The ordinances were adopted by the Supervisors last fall with the stipulation they would be reviewed and, if necessary, amended by April of this year.
Most of the discussion, and controversy, at last Thursday’s meeting focused on Section 2-31A of the subdivision ordinance.
That section defines “subdivision” on land of less than 14% slope as any division of land into two or more parcels for transfer of ownership, lease or building development (a) if any such lot is less than 25 acres; (b) if a new street is involved in such division; or (c) if the state access highway to such subdivision has a right-of-way width of less than 50 feet.
THE Planning Commission had recommended to the Supervisors that sections (b) and (c) be deleted. But their recommendation encountered opposition from persons in the audience at the hearing and both subsections were eventually . retained.
Col. E. A. McNear, county Zoning Administrator, ji, argued that the two delev* tions would “weaken and water down the ordinance; we’ll pay dearly,” he predicted. “And we’ll get bunches of 25-acre subdivisions.”
