Speed limit plea
KEEP VIRGINIA’S SPEED limits at their present 55 mph level, the Virginia Highway Department was urged at last Thursday’s primary road planning hearing in Culpeper: “I love my husband!”
Making the plea was Mrs. Diana Byrd, who described herself as a resident of Fairfax County “and a prospective resident of Rappahannock.” Said she to the assembled Highway Department Commissioners and engineers: “Now that the crisis is over and we’re only left with a problem, it is important that you keep the speed limits down and keep your men enforcing it.”
Automobile—manufacturers “love” to make cars which will go 100 mph, she said, “and my husband would be pleased to drive it at 100 mph. In fact, he did and you gave him a ticket. I love my husband very much! Please keep the speed limits low!”D
