WHAT DO WE KNOW about Easter? We know that the time corresponds with the Jewish holiday, called the Passover. It is mentioned once in the Bible in Acts 12:4 with a notation that it should be Passover. Then, why Easter? Since it is associated with fertility rites we assume it comes from the goddess of such rites, Astarte.
A .Professor Roger Rusk has given us a computerized report. Having given all the known facts to the computer, the answer came out that Christ was crucified Thursday, spent Friday (which began at sunset) Saturday and Sunday in the tomb. Monday morning the tomb was empty. He spent three whole days in the tomb as He said He would. According to the computer Christ died April 6, 30 AD. The Lord’s Day would be three days later.
Now that we have actual dates, are we going to continue the haphazard way of celebrating this event which has a date variation of 35 days?
Whatever this Holy Day may mean to us, the message is that beyond this vale of tears there is life. I think our rewards in that after life is determined by how we live here and now.D
