Turkey season

THE SPRING TURKEY SEASON opens Saturday, April 13. Only bearded turkeys are legal and hunting hours are from a half hour before sunrise until 11 a.m. This season will run through Saturday, May 11. Only one turkey per day may be taken and the season bag limit is three per license year, which means any turkeys killed last fall must be counted in this season’s bag. If a hunter used none of his turkey license tabs last fall, all three may be used in the spring. Most hunters are very good about getting out of the woods by 11 a.m. This is important since the sooner they leave the less chance there is of disturbing a nesting hen. Most hunters find that the action is pretty well over much earlier than 11. Use of dogs is, of course, not legal during the spring season and an effort should be made to keep dogs out of known nesting areas for the next several months. □
