NEWBILL MILLER, Chairman of the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors since 1963, resigned from the Board last Friday.
In a letter to Circuit Court Judge Rayner V. Snead, Miller said he had contemplated resigning for several months. “I made it clear a year and a half ago that I wouldn’t be running for re-election,” Miller said. ‘‘And it was a long series of things that made me decide Friday was the time to do it.”
The day before, the Board of Supervisors approved amendments to the county’s new subdivision and zoning ordinances, one or two which Miller had seen as ‘‘too restrictive.”
Miller admitted, when discussing reasons for his resignation, that he was “not happy with some things in some sections” of the new ordinances, but he said he was not quitting because of the Supervisors’ action on Thursday.
