From Page 3 Mrs. Luke said. She noted that the cards reflect differences in the varied color qualities—value, hue and saturation. “Often these attributes aren’t even considered by most people.”

“No one can carry color accurately in his mind,” Mrs. Luke said. “It’s hard to explain; it has to do with subtracting light. But an artist needs to understand the differences. So this system was devised to help him, as a kind of reference point.”

ALTHOUGH the Munsell system was purchased by Mrs. Luke to use in teaching her “color workshop” class, she personally devised a slide rule for color for her students to use. “It counts spaces between different colors,” she said.
