Fred Buswell then indicated his reservations. “Doesn’t Culpeper have a Senior Citizens club, welfare programs, food stamps? I’m completely against a program like this.”
“Some people do contribute for this, don’t they?” Pete Luke asked of Ms. Clark. She said about a third of the old people pay for their meals.
“It still seems to me there’s a duplication here,” said Buswell, looking stern.
LUKE WENT into a dissertation about how people who live alone don’t always eat nutritional meals; it’s too much trouble, even for young people, who live alone. Art Warren added that Congress approved funds for the program in question, nationwide.
“Just because funds are available, we shouldn’t go out and seek them,” retorted Busell. ‘‘That’s what’s wrong with this country.”
Richard McNear observed that “Most of programs like this have been on a local initiative thing, and this is one of them.
“Some people are willing to back anything,” said Buswell. Peggy Clark invited Buswell, and all commission directors, to attend one of the programs, and “see what it means to them.”
“Season tickets to the Redskins games would mean a lot to me, too,” said Fred Buswell. “jAs a taxpayer, I don’t believe my" fellow taxpayers would like something like this.”
