Education is a broad word meaning almost anything we learn — whether useful or not. We read a lot about “quality education,” but who knows what “quality education” really is? We hope the three R’s are still a part of it. The Rappahannock schools have long been considered poor and inadequate. Yet, those who wanted finished high school. Some went to college and competed with those from other schools and graduated. Those who wanted have made successful citizens. Doubtless some chose the welfare way which wasn’t the fault of the schools.
Kindergarten is a nice thing for mother and child. The child is entertained, gets free food, while mother is free of the care of her child. But it will have no effect on the child’s learning ability in school. We are already over-taxed and experiencing serious inflation caused' by years of over spending — much unnecessary. And it isn’t going away. Isn’t it time we cut out some frills?
Competent, honest dependable farm help is almost non-existent. If General Noce is able to keep such farm help at a cheap price every farmer in the country would like to know his secret! That farm hand must have a good home, fringe benefits, and kind treatment or he would head for greener pastures.
