“SOME PEOPLE have suggested that we might think about it as a county office building,” Baumgardner said. He said that Col. McNear, Mr. Fletcher and Mrs. Davis had made that suggestion.
Pete Luke wondered if the county was in a position to buy it. “We have only $11,000uncommitted.”
“Has the county got any credit?” Herbert Barksdale asked.
“I haven’t asked,” Pete Luke answered good humoredly. “But that building might be used for the regional jail (for Planning District 9).
“Looking at it from here, I’m not sure it’d be economical,” David Fannon said. “But I don’t know.”
Pete Luke noted that the clerk’s office would soon have to expand. “And that means expensive construction. Vaults for all the deed books.”
