As the meeting neared its conclusion, Art Warren noted that the state is conducting a study on use of school buses for public transportation purposes, and recommended that the commissioners convey their views on this to legislators studying the proposal.
McNear said he thought it was a good idea, and said he’d like to “give it a go; it’s a horrible waste as it is, especially with the school buses sitting idle all summer long.”
PETE LUKE noted that during the school year, regular trips are made by school buses from Rappahannock to the vocational school at Culpeper. He thought it would be useful if citizens could be given rides on these buses on a “space available” basis.
Richard L. Sanford of Orange said he understood that if problems of liability and insurance could be solved, many more uses of school buses could be worked out. □
