ROBERT E. SCHOOLEY, Statistician in Charge of the Virginia Crop Reporting Serv ice, said: "Information for the acreage estimates will be collected near January 1 through a mail survey of farmers. Official V irginia and national estimates will be published January 22."
The purpose of this early evaluation ol prospectiv e acreage is to give farmers and others associated with agriculture an opportunity to make decisions founded on reliable information. It should be noted by those intending to use the estimates that actual plantings may be substantially greater or smaller than these early season indications because of weather, economic conditions, labor supply, and the impact of the report itself on farmers' actions.^.
