IF EVER Rappahannock’s Planning Commissioners have had a clear mandate from the audience at a public hearing, they had one last Wednesday night, May 21. So the planners denied attorney T.C. Lea’s request, on behalf of the heirs of J.L. Williams, for a rezoning and exceptions to the subdivision ordinance, even though Lea and his clients were not present to make their case.
Opponents of the rezoning had come to the hearing expecting to confront Lea and his clients, but they had the floor to themselves. Two days prior to the hearing, Fanning Baumgardner said the zoning office had received a letter from Lea, stating that he had just realized the date of the hearing conflicted with a speaking engagement he’d had for months. Lea asked that the hearing be postponed until the next meeting of the Planning Commission.
