These last couple of weeks before the end of school have been busy ones, to say the least! The year’s almost over...three more days to go! Our Seniors are busy preparing for baccalaureate and graduation. They will be having two special speakers, Bill Hickman, special assistant to George Allen of the Redskins, and Congressman Robinson.
The Seniors seemed to have a great time on their trip last Friday and Saturday in Pennsylvania where they had an opportunity to learn a little bit about Amish living along the way.
One of the highlights of this week was a special assembly for the purpose of inducting new National Honor Society members along with a special presentation to the teachers for Teachers’ Appreciation Day. The teachers were given carnations, speeches of appreciation by Faye Dunn and Ed Foster, plus a special humorous song of appreciation by a group of S.C.A. members. Some students did a really nice clean-up job on the teachers’ lounge and classrooms as an extra treat which was appreciated, apparently, by all teachers. The assembly was the first period and was a special way to start the day for everyone.
Cheerleading tryouts were held last week and the following were chosen for next year: VarsityPatsy Vest, Donna Cannon, Marie Fletcher, Sheri Settle, Connie DelGrosso, Mary Hudson, Beverly Brown and Mae Dunn.
Junior Varsity: Penny Chadwell, Lisa Raiford, Dee Welch, Karen Welch, Tammy Settle, Laura Pendleton, Shelia Bailey and Natalie Swindler.
A lot of the names may be new to many but I think we’ve got some super squads coming up next year. We can look forward to that!!
Our annual awards assembly will be held Friday to recognize students with outstanding achievements in the areas of sports and academics. The sports award banquet was held Tuesday night, with many standing ovations. A more detailed report will be found elsewhere in this issue.□
