“We will reserve comment on how it happened, and why it happened, and on the composition of the SCC, until we’ve had a chance to read their decision,” he said. Meanwhile, Irwin suggested that the Planning Commission might want to consider a statement, reflecting their disappointment at the See’s action.
Irwin said he has talked with several landowners in the Flint Hill and Huntly area, which will be affected by the new powerline, and he expects that an appeal of the See decision can be funded.
Herbert Barksdale asked Luke how many people in Rappahannock are opposed to the powerline. ‘‘After all, we represent the whole county,” he said.
IRWIN SAID that as far as he knew only two people had accepted Vepco’s offer for right-ofway payments. Everyone else who owned property affected has opposed it. And the membership of RLEP, which is county-wide, has opposed it.
Newbill Miller added that several public hearings had been held on the proposed powerline. ‘‘They were packed and not one single person was for it.”
