STRONG opposition has already developed to the Commission of Outdoor Recreation’s study for the proposed scenic river designation of the Rappahannock and Rapidan. The state is studying the Rappahannock from Remington to Fred-j ericksburg and the Rapidan from the village of Rapidan in Orange County to its confluence with the Rappahannock.
The City of Fredericksburg iS| against the scenic river designation because the city still wants a water supply dam to encourage more development. The city has spent a half million dollars to purchase land to build a water supply dam. Fredericksburg owns 350 acres in Fauquier in various oddly shaped parcels.
