HAY MAKING DEMONSTRATION—Rappahannock farmers are invited to Charles (Eddie) Sutphin’s hay making field day next Tuesday, June 10. Fahr and Gehl hay-making equipment and refreshments will be featured. The demonstrations will start about 1 p.m. and continue until twilight. You will have the opportunity to look over the Fahr mower, rake and centipede. The 880 Haybind will mow, condition and windrow all in one operation. And the Gehl bale 1500 (large round hay baler) will wind up the demonstration.
The field day will take place about four miles east of Flint Hill on Route 647 on the Flint Hill-Hume road. Just watch for the signs.
FEEDER CATTLE SALES—Wayne Freeze and Billy Staples, managers of the Front Royala Livestock Market are exploring the possibilities of having a special state graded feeder calf sale and a graded yearling sale at the Front Royal Market this Fall. Reggie B. Reynolds, executive secretary, Virginia Beef Cattle Association; Randall Updike, Virginia Division of Markets and Marketing, and the Extension Agents in Page, Warren and Rappahannock Comities, are working with Billy and Wayne to determine feeder cattle potential and producer reaction. The primary objective, as far as I am concerned, is not to take cattle away from existing sales, but to give producers already marketing quality cattle through the Front Royal Market an opportunity to package their cattle in larger more uniform lots that will command broader buyer response.
I would appreciate producer reaction to these proposed sales before next Wednesday.
WOOL POOL—Rappahannock-Culpeper Wool Pool will be Wednesday, June 18, from 8:30 a.m.-ll:30 a.m. at the Culpeper Farmers’ Cooperative. Producers will be paid $38.75 per pound for clear tied wool.D
