C.H. “Kit” Shaffer, Game Management Field Coordinator for the Virginia Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries, summarized the results of the 1975 Spring Gobbler season as being the second highest since the season was initiated some 14 years ago.

Shaffer stated that “the 1975 total of 2,568 birds killed was only 198 less than the 2,766 killed during the high harvest year of 1972. The 1975 total represents a 369 bird, or a nearly 17%increase over the results of the 1974 Spring Gobbler season.” He also explained that the near record harvest
