the land, “instead of a developer.” Butler said the Board of Supervisors wants to preserve the river as it is. The county owns a 300aere tract with two miles of riverfront above Kelly’s Ford; the land is planned to be a park. The two tracts of land to be purchased by the Game and Inland Fisheries are owned by Mrs. Beulah Setti and T. Henry Maddux, Jr. They will retain crop rights until January 1. The parcels are located about two miles south of Kelly’s Ford,

The Nature Conservancy will purchase the land, then sell it back to the Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries at cost. The Commission plans to purchase the land in increments, hopefully obtaining title by July, 1976, when the land will be open to the public.

Game and Inland Fisheries Executive Director Chester F. Phelps explained that the initial Jncre_-_ ment for purchase of the land will be the re-investment of $620,000 the Commission received when the Army Corps of Engineers bought a portion of the Gaithright Wildlife Management Area in Alleghany County in order to build a dam on the Jackson River.
