“Why didn’t you take the land next door? It’s for sale,” Kilby protested.

“Because of a difference in the soil,” Long said.

“It’s the same damn soil,” Kilby argued. Long said no, and continued to describe how the drainfield would be constructed.

“Do you know why I don’t plow that land?” Kilby asked. “Because it washes so bad.” Long said the Soil maps indicate the land would be usuable for a septic field. Long said the land would be leased.

“You’d damn well better buy mine, and at one hell of a price,” Kilby said.
