ALSO, Sperryville qualifies as a “hardship” case. If a large, expensive sewer plant were built, the people of Sperryville, the users of the plant, would have to pay for it. And, as Pete Luke pointed out, the money just isn’t there. More than a third of the residents of the inincorporated village are widows whose only income is from Social Security or pensions.
For these reasons the State Water Control Board was persuaded to make Sperryville an exception; and allowed the engineers to consider a community septic field —the first of its kind in Virginia —as a solution.
The meeting Friday was spon„ sored by the Sperryville Community League and the county Water and Sanitation Authority to bring the residents of the community up to date on where plans for the sewer stand.
