Three of the nine starters failed to complete the mile and a half course of eight fences. The M. J. Dixons’ Tivie Ridge, who had refused to start at Warrenton, fell at the first hurdle, along with Randy Waterman on his Toscanini, while Marvin Reese and his Head Knock came to grief at the sixth. Larry Campbell remounted the gray Tivie Ridge and finished last.
In the second division, Completed was off on top at the start and made it a wire-to-wire win. Jonathan Ruhsam handled the strong gray colt for Star 10 Stables, a syndicate of ten which includes several Congressmen. Right behind him were Evid Boy and Musical Orbit, running and fencing together. Mr. Royal C moved up and the four were tightly bunched down the stretch. Clay Tittle on his Musical Orbit was second by a length, followed by Mack Crippen’s Mr. Royal C., Johnny Hughs ig), and Joe Aitcheson riding Daniel Brewster’s Evil Boy. Moody Aylor’s European, with son Pete in the irons, fell at the first, and Charles Jones suffered a separated shoulder in a fall from his Mollify after the second hurdle.
