RUMORS and petitions brought out a crowd for Tuesday night’s Rappahannock School Board meeting. Some 200 persons packed the Elementary School auditorium to find out how the Board intended to fill the position that will be vacated by retiring Superintendent O.A. Norton.
During the last couple of weeks, a rumor circulated around the county that School Board members intended to combine the positions of Superintendent and High School principal. Petitions in opposition to such a move were begun by a citizens group in Sperry ville, the Rappahannock Women’s Club and the county teachers. Then another rumor followed that Board members had changed their minds. Tuesday’s audience included those for and those against consolidation of the jobs, and speakers for both positions won applause.
