School Board Chairman E. N. Montague said he originally supported the proposal to combine the positions because he thought it would result in a savings of $6,000. Upon re-examination of the figures, he changed his mind and requested a reconsideration of the question. Under parliamentary procedure, an “aye” voter on a position can call for reconsideration, according to Montague.
He presented figures to support his conclusion that consolidation wouldn’t result in savings. Currently, according to Montague, Rappahannock pays $12,000 for part-time Superintendent Norton, $18,375 for the adhiinistrative assistant to the* Superintendent, $18,226 for the High School principal, and $11,915 to the assistant High School principal who also teaches two classes for a total of $60,516.
