Mrs. Gordon Thornhill stood up and asked for a round of applause in recognition of Montague’s decision to re-evaluate his figures on the cost ration of the two alternatives. The response from the audience appeared to be practically unanimous.
WES CHAPEL, a teacher at the High School, asked if either Superintendent Norton or assistant Superintendent Fleetwood felt they could effectively fill the combined position.
Fleetwood answered that he had a difficult time now accomplishing all he wanted to do. “It would be physically and mentally impossible for me to function as both.’’
Norton said he would hate to see the county get into any legal difficulties from problems caused by having one person devote too much time to. too many positions. “I cannot visualize doing both (Superintendent and Principal) at the same time,” he concluded.
