While the early bird catches the worm, the early chaperone manages to grab a few extra minutes for a morning shower—an absolute necessity when you’ve had less than four hours of sleep and are facing a day of non-stop walking back 1 through time into colonial Williamsburg.
The super-charged seventh graders who tried to set endurance records for staying up all night on Friday were dragging their tails behind when teachers marched through the motel halls at our 6:45 a.m. wake-up time. The chaperones, too, looked a little worse for wear as Rappahannock's entourage walked—not ran—to the cafeteria for breakfast.
