County engineer Fanning Baumgardner reported that he’d bring estimates on taking energy conservation measures, including blowing in ceiling insulation, to the court house and other county buildings, at the next board meeting.
Fire Escape
After Baumgardner informed the board that the state fire marshal had declared a rear fire escape from the upstairs court room to be unacceptable, the supervisors authorized the county engineer to investigate cost and design of a fire exit to be located at the front of the court house on the same side with the new clerk's office.
Baumgardner said French doors could be used to provide access to the fire escape through front windows without changing the design of the window opening. The fire escape itself could consist of one flight of steps to a platform at the bottom. Cost would run from $1,800 to $2,500, depending on how ornate the supervisors wanted to make the wrought iron structure, said Baumgardner.
