supervisors agreed to consider bids from four companies for fire insurance coverage on the court house as soon as they are received. Luke volunteered to relay information by telephone to the rest of the board members as the bids come in so a decision on a new policy can be reached before February 28, expiration date on the current policy.
The supervisors unanimously approved a resolution proposed by resident highway engineer Don Askew to add new sections of Route 231 at Chester Gap to the county’s primary and secondary road systems while discontinuing old sections no longer needed with the new construction.
Askew emphasized that the road sections were to be discontinued, not abandoned. With a discontinued road, right-of-way reverts back to the county, not to the private landowner, he noted.
Askew also informed the board that discontinuance of maintenance on Route 609 for .5 mile (from Route 621 to the deadend) would be advertised for public hearing. He reported that no one lives on the section of road proposed to be discontinued.
