In anticipation of sharply increased costs for operating heating systems this winter. Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative announced it will be cooperating with its members who need assistance through a program made available by the Virginia Department of Welfare. The program is designed to help those families who have unpaid fuel bills up to $200 from December 1 through March 3. In addition to cash payments for fuel assistance, the program will include aid in materials and services such as winterization improvements and advice on conservation.
A family of four with an income of less than $8,375 a year or an individual earning less than $4,250 a year would be within the income limits set by the state. Other income requirements vary depending on the number of persons in the household. Persons who think they may require help and need information on whether their family will qualify should call the Rappahannock Welfare Office at 675-3613.
