The Wakefield Girls’ Field Hockey Team, coached by Edward Sharp, culminated their first season viewing the AIAW Region 2 Field Hockey Championships in Williamsburg over the weekend.
The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women is now the nation’s largest governing body for intercollegiate athletics.
Attending the games provided the nine girls from Wakefield with an instructional tool for realizing the potential for team play.
Wakefield’s newly formed team is drawn from grades 712 with both JV and varsity squads. So far this year they have played Fauquier High School, St. Anne’s Bellfield, Powhatan and Notre Dame Academy.
According to Sharp, plans for next year include August or pre-school practice and a longer playing season.
