Sursum Corda School and Day Care Center of Washington announces the addition of an Infant-Toddter Program to the facility which will be open to children 6 weeks to 2 years of age. The day care center presently is licensed by the Virginia Department of Welfare to operate pre-school and afterschool day care programs for children ages 2 through 14. With the addition of the Infant-Toddler Department, the school is meeting the more stringent requirements established by the Welfare Department for children under two years of age.
According to Camille Harris, center director, a maximum ratio of four children to one adult teacher will be maintained. Each child will be given a set time during the day to work with the teacher on his or her individualized developmental program. The room furnishings and equipment will be geared to the physical and learning needs of infants and toddlers. In addition, each teacher working with the program will be undergoing intensive training sessions in first aid and early childhood development.
Although the program will not formally begin until January 1, any interested parent is invited to attend the Infant-Toddler Program Orientation on Tuesday,
