One such organization deserves special mention and thanks. The Piedmont Environmental Council, based in Warrenton and serving a nine-county region, has worked for seven years to conserve our environment and increase public awareness and involvement. In an era when loud calls for either “no growth” or “all-out growth” have dominated planning issues, PEC has worked quietly to promote reasonable alternatives. It has consistently spoken out for controlled growth that will accommodate future needs while conserving our natural heritage. PEC deserves the support of all Rappahannock residents now as it enters into its eighth year.
With your help, PEC and other concerned community organizations will enable us to give thanks in future years—both for the quality of our environment and for the level of citizen participation. With their help, ours will indeed be a heritage for the future.
