been skating with her partner, Steve Forestner, since 1971; they placed 12th in the 1974 National Roller-Skating Championship in the junior dance division.
Forestner currently teaches roller-skating at a Richmond rink, but is considering coming to the Dominion Rink in Culpeper to teach •next year.
All of us watched raptly, amazed that they could make something that was causing us our share of bumps and bruises seem so beautifully simple. As we tried the fancy turns and figures ourselves, we quickly came to appreciate the hard work and arduous hours professional skaters endure. We found it took all of our attention and energy just to stay “rear up” and roll.
In addition to the fun of skating with good friends in a light-hearted atmosphere, we were able to disco around the rink to the accompaniment of two fast talking rink “D.J.’s” who spun disco music faster than we could snap our fingers. The concession stand provided a break for revitalizing our sore muscles and wounded egos.
It goes without saying that such an enjoyable afternoon wculd not have been possible except for the generosity of Dominion’s owner, Bob Boyd, and his son, William Boyd, manager. Dominion Skating Rink offers a full size hardwood skating floor, wellstocked concession stand and fair prices. Events and parties such as the roller-skating party are scheduled for all children, teens and adults from Special Education programs in Culpeper, Fauquier, Louisa, Orange, Madison, and Rappahannock counties over the next seven months. Sponsored by Area 17 Special Olympics, outings are planned to encourage athletic participation in a non-competitive atmosphere. Interested participants and volunteers who want to help out are encouraged to call Richard Shaw at 825-4343 during business hours.
