When calling, know the year, make, model and auto identification number. If reporting a safety problem, the caller should know the odometer mileage and how to describe the problem.
Consumer Product Safety Commission—1-800-6388326. It investigates such products as bicycles and hair dryers but does not regulate safety of cars, boats, airplanes, foods, cosmetics or drugs. Call this number to report a potentially dangerous product or product-related injury.
Education Hot Line—1800-638-6700. Call for information on federal grants for undergraduate college students. It is part of U.S. Office of Education.
Federal Community Education Clearinghouse—1-800-638-6698.
It gathers, analyzes and disseminates for U.S. Office of Education information on broad range of topics related to community education, such as advisory councils, building use, funding sources, laws and legislation.
Housing Discrimination Hot Line—1-800-424-8590. An office, provided by Department of Housing and Urban Development, investigates charges of housing discrimination based on race, color, sex, national origin or religion. It cannot help if discrimination is based on marital status or children.
Moving Hot Line—1-800424-9312. Interstate Commerces Commission provides information about moving household goods and gives limited assistance for consumers with complaints against interstate movers. Also has information on bus and train travel.
Operation Venus—1-800523-1885. Office will answer questions concerning venereal disease and will give name of free local testing clinic.
Runaway Children—1-800621-4000. This is National Runaway Switchboard. There also is National Runaway Hotline at 1-800-231-6946. Both give advice to parents on how to deal with runaways and convey messages.

The Virginia Direct Marketing Conference, cosponsored by the Virginia Tech Extension Service and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, is scheduled for February 26-27, 1980, in Richmond at the Airport Holiday Inn.
The two-day meeting, first of its kind in the state, will bring together producers of Virginia crops and highlyqualified agricultural and marketing specialists to focus on improving methods of selling direct to the consumer.
