The Rappahannock Athletic Association's summer baseball program ended with fanfare last Thursday evening as a table full of trophies were handed out to outstanding players and to adults who gave generously of time and talent.
The most prestigious award of the evening, the trophy for sportsmanship, was won by Gary Jenkins who best exemplified the spirit stressed in the RAA program.
For the first time this year, teams were sponsored by local businesses and civic groups. Appreciation trophies were given the sponsors, Bradford’s Grovery in Flint Hill, Huey Atkins’ Sperryville Exxon, the Rappahannock Lions Club and Chester Gap contractor Joe Williams, as well as to the Rappahannock school board for allowing the use of the school fields and to the Rappahannock Rebels softball team for providing umpires. coaches and monetary support.
Most valuable player trophies were awarded an outstanding member of each team: Rob Brown from the Lions Club. H. B. Wood from Bradford’s, Craig Williams from Sperryville Exxon and Mark Brown from Williams Contracting.
