The Department of State Police has announced that Trooper P. j K. Hargis, currently stationed in York County at Grafton, will be presented the Superintendent’s Distinguished and Extraordinary Act Award July 7, in special ceremonies at the Departments's Training Academy.
Hargis, 35, was named recipient of the State Police’s highest honor for his response to an incident which occurred January 10, 1980, on Piney Point Road in York county. Responding to the scene of a vehicle crash, he found an apparently unconscious driver in a locked and burning automobile.
Hargis, jeopardizing personal safety, used an axe to open a door of the vehicle and pulled the victim to safety. He then extinguished the victim’s burning clothes and finding neither pulse nor
