Rachel Aylor played emcee, bringing the surprised guest of honor up from the audience to her seat at the head of the pews before launching a past history recital. The daughter of Thomas and Julia Jett of Huntly, Darlene Belinda Jett attended grade school in Washington and graduated in 1975 from Rappahannock County High School where she was a cheerleader, member of the Future Homemakes Club and on the annual staff. Pursuing a career in medicine, she graduated from Petersburg School of Nursing in 1978 and went on to a job at Warren Memorial Hospital where hard work and dedication saw her promoted to superintendent of the second floor day shift, according to Mrs. Aylor. An active and faithful member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Flint Hill, she married David Green of Hume. The couple is expecting their first child in August.
After the biographical background, Mrs. Aylor read a poem written by Carrie Price, wife of the pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church. Using the letters in Darlene’s name as a take-off point, the verses stressed the love and assistance the young nurse has provided by reaching out and touching those who need to know there is a cure for cancer and by giving her best in the service of the Lord.
