The deadline for applying for Emergency drought assistance through the Farmers Home Administration is drawing to a close. The Culpeper Office, which covers Culpeper, Rappahannock and Fauquier counties have closed Emergency loans, totaling $2,474,400.00 to date. The deadline for applications for Culpeper County is May 13, 1981 and for Fauquier and Rappahannock counties June ., 1981.
To determine if they have suffered a qualifying loss farmers will have to know actual yields for 1980. Loans to eligible farmers will be at a 5 percent interest rate with up to seven years for repayment.

Reenactment
More than 800 members of reactivated Civil War units from 15 states have registered for the 14th annual reenactment of the Battle of New Market there Sunday, May 10.
New Market Battlefield Park is preparing for the usual crowd of 10,000 or more spectators. It has urged them to be in the park at least one hour before the action begins at 2 p.m.
The yearly event honors the corps of cadets of Virginia Military Institute which was ordered into the 1864 battle by the Confederate Commander, John C. Breckinridge.
Although never before under fire, the 247 cadets displayed great courage and military precision. Ten were killed and another 47 wounded.
Both the 160-acre battlefield park and its twomillion-dollar museum. The Hall of Valor, are memorials to the VMI New Market Cadets. The site and funds for its development were bequeathed to VMI by an alumnus, George R. Collins.
