On day shift, a deputy is on call from 4 a.m. to 8 a m. and on the road from 8 a m. to 4 p.m. Night shift runs from 4 p.m. to midnight on the road and midnight to 4 a m. on call.)

Supervisor Hubert Gilkey supported Buntin’s request to provide funds , for ow; ad,; ' ditional police cgr. Chairman , Luke acknowledged that the $2,250 net expenditure would require no addition to the tax rate. "I think it's an imposition for county employees to have to use their private cars for county business." he added.

Supervisor H. B. Wood countered that two cars are enough for the Rappahannock County sheriff's department. (Currently, the department has three cars, all purchased second-hand from a rental operation.)

"People are hollering like crazy about raising taxes." said Supervisor Baldwin "Every time we add something (to the budget), we raise them even higher "

In the absence of supervisor Dick Latham. Luke suggested that a decision on the police car be postponed until after the board’s June I public hearing on the proposed budget.
