Susan Dennis as Lady Audley deserves glowing praise as she performed an amazing number of songs, all with a degree of sensitivity and clarity unusual to high school productions. Todd Robinson as Sir Michael seemed reminiscent of a ninteenth century country squire and we felt that his loyal love for Lady Audely could well be represented as a winter rose. Denise Shorb, in her first stage appearance. was a delight singing "An Old Maid", as she made us feel becoming a "spinster with the vapors, sipping lemonade", was quite possibly a valid fear.
Kudos certainly go to the entire production staff for the fine scenery, lights and special effects, both audio and visual. A factory whistle, horses’ hooves and neighing, and the smoke in Act II were well done. When Luke said, “I choke, I choke, 1 die." as the smoke billowed, I laughed, yet I believed.
"Lady Audely's Secret” was a high calibre production and the students and faculty of Rappahannock High deserve our applause and our thanks for bringing it to us. I look forward to next year's productions. In the mean time. I’ll continue to look for skeletons in the closet to support my new definition of literary and theatrical significance.
