The Rappahannock Association for Arts and the Community has received a $5,000 grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Sid Gottlieb, president of the year-old community group, said the grant was awarded under the Commission’s program to support new and emerging art organizations.
The grant, submitted by a RAAC committee of Bill Young, Lori Marshall and Gottlieb, is earmarked for a part-time theater manager to oversee the total operation of the organization,
publish a newsletter and coordinate RA.AC programs.
“This is a tremendous' achievement for our young organization,” said Gottlieb. “We received a great deal of favorable comment from tlie Commission panel, especially on the community support that we’ve built.” Gottlieb added that the eventual goal for RAAC participation is 12,000 in the target five-county area.
After a year of development and growth, RAAC has sponsored a long list of activities: two block dances in Washington in the summer and fall, a blue grass concert, an art exhibit, a blues concert, a New Year’s Eve dinner and dance, a drama workshop, a mountain music and folklore presentation, a film series (with more to come), a dance
