RAAC is helping to sponsor the 4-H Community day camp in mid-June and is planning a costume ball on July 2 and an art show on July 4.
In addition, Gottlieb said, RAAC has leased the Gay Street Theater for its own programs and activities, sponsored by other groups, remodeled it, installed a new heating and sound system and will continue to further upgrade the movie house.
RAAC’s proprietorship of the Gay Street facility has allowed other groups to present dramatic works in Rappahannock, Gottlieb pointed out. In addition to all the RAAC movies, concerts and performances, the arts group made the theater available to the Rappahannock Players for Next Year Jerusalem, an original drama, and for Rhinoceros, the Players’ spring production.
Equus, brought to Rappahannock by the Source Theater group, also found a stage in Washington, thanks to RAAC’s cooperation.
Gottlieb said that RAAC has another grant application in the works: for a three-month “Rappahannock Portraits” projects, an original historic drama to be presented in the fall.
