Youtn spirited members of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter NSDAR when four senior high school students from the surrounding area high schools talked on American Heritage and How To Promote It. This took place at the Culpeper United Methodist Church January 8 at the meeting hosted by Mrs. Carl Longley and Mrs. Clayton Wynham, both of Madison.
This was a patriotic program on citizenship arranged and presented by Mrs. Paul Frantz of Rappahannock County, who is chairman of the DAR Good Citizen’s committee. This nation wide activity was started in 1934 and the selection from sponsored high schools is based on leadership, dependability, service and patriotism. The senior class of each of the participating high schools selects three nominees from their class based on the above qualifications and in turn one is selected by the faculty. Each high school good citizen wrote an essay on a named topic and the winner’s essay with proper credentials will be forwarded for district, state and national competition.
Fron Culpeper High School came Jill Pippin dressed in her uniform as community officer of Marine Corps,-dr.' ROTC who told of training and participation in the ROTC recently organized in Culpeper County.
Karen Shepherd from Madison County High School in her presentation, stressed the fact that it is our duty and privilege as loyal American citizens to protect our heritage.
Cindy Dodson who represented Rappahannock High School told of the benefits derived in participation in the working world.
