George Shankling
Construction Worker
George Franklin Shankling, 71, of Culpeper, died Monday, January 7 at Roanoke Memorial Hosptial.
Mr. Shankling was a native of Culpeper County and a retired construction worker.
Survivors include five sisters, Margaret E. Dean of CulpepJfer, Catherine Gaines and Mary Groves, both of Washington, D.C., Kate Pendleton and Nellie King, both of Amissville and six brothers, Thomas Groves of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Raymond Groves of Amissville, Walter Groves of Jeffersonton, James Groves and William Groves, both of Washington, D.C. and Julius Groves of Washington, Va.
Additional survivors include three step-daughters, Ella Parker and Ruth Johnson, both of Falls Church and Ethel Jordan of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at Bethel Baptist Church in Amissville on Saturday by the Rev. Earl Mosley of Jeffersonton. Burial was in the family section of the church cemetery.
W.C. Thompson Funeral Home in Culpeper was in charge of the arrangements.
