I do appreciate the fact that you counsel the Constitutional Offices. I appreciate also the work you performed reviewing the county insurance policies, having done so niyself on the School Board with Robert Eastham for our school system, but the expense we may have saved then confronts us now.
Where did the precedent arise that public business takes place in a private office? This has just recently surfaced in my mind, and I see it as a conflict. I feel public business should take place in public, in the public office we presently provide for y<*v,thaty. stands vacant now. • M
So in answer to your concents as jj to your telephone, copier, utilities, taxes, mortgage and other concerns, this is by your choice and your doing, and I am not in favor as a matter of principle of public business taking place in a private office. Now that I have insisted that the Supervisors receive a printed copy of monthly county expenditures, I have also seen dictating machines and other reimbursables purchased for this office. I feel that this dictating machine should be in the office we now furnish for you and become a permanent fixture of the courthouse.
On to the next point. I believe that if necessary, I can find a handful of other counties who do as we do, and utilize the enabling legislation you (Luke) are familiar with and ran for your office with full knowledge of. You know Peter, you stated you/waited a year to write this letter in mopes that the work would subside. I feel you should have thought about it a year ago before you gave your word to the residents of Rappahannock County that you were indeed the best man for the job as was stated in the law at the salary which was also law.
Secondly, I don’t feel the work load has gone up, but that the threat of such tends to buzz around our heads lake a persistent hornet. You (Luke)
