21/2-mile race on Spreader with Cookin ’N Lookin following about five lengths behind. But as the field charged up the mountain for a second time Cookin ’N Lookin took the lead and stayed there, leaping over the fence at the foot of the awesome slope several lengths ahead of the field.
From then on there was no doubt about who would win. Behind Cookin ’N Lookin Spreader began to tire and was overtaken by Peter Jay of Churchville, Md., on Tonnere and Jimmy Robinson on Wee Pet.
Tonnere made a last minute strike at Cookin ’N Lookin who was being eased in the stretch, but Mr. Cramer still had plenty of horse left and kept his mount in front to win by an easy two lengths. Wee Pet carried his Warrenton farrier owner to third place.
