ridden by Leigh Louri, led from wire to wire to win by a length over Doc’s Torch, owned and ridden by Helen Richards.
In the second division D. M. “Speedy” Smithwick of Middleburg rode Mrs. T. A. Randolph’s Tingles Image to a 2'/2-length victory over Treat’s Son, owned by D. W. Tucker of Orange and ridden by Charles Fleischmann of The Plains.
The Rappahannock Hunt had a lot to celebrate in the second race when huntsman Oliver Brown’s ’’.oijian Hunt won the 2‘/2-mile open timber race with a fearless ride by Mark Stickley of Middleburg.
“He’s an absolutely awesome horse,” Mr. Stickley said after the race.
It was a repeat victory for the 10year-old gelding who also won the race in 1984.
“I knew he (Roman Hunt) had a shot on this course,” said Mr. Brown after the race. “It’s made for him with the mountain. I didn’t realize how fit he was though. He’s not as tight this year as we had him last year.”
