bah Wallah led the l'/j-mile course virtually from start to finish.
Mr. Fleischmann won the First Colony owner-rider hurdle race championship in 1984 on Lumbah Wallah. The 6-year-old Frankie’s Nod mare is trained by Mrs. Torrance Fleischmann, a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. combined event team at the Los Angeles Olympics.
A four-legged animal of a different kind went to the post for the final race of the day .
As the flag dropped the backs of several pickup trucks flew open, discharging their cargoes of foxhounds which lunged out in pursuit of a drag line that had been ridden by huntsman Oliver Brown.
Fortunately several of the 59 hounds entered did make it all the way around the course and there was even a neck and neck challenge in the stretch.
The eventual winner was Captain, owned by Larry C'oppedge of Brightwood, a former member of the Montpelier Hunt.
“I’ve hunted all my life,” Mr. C'oppedge said afterwards. "I love to hear the hounds run."
