Herbert Brown (Humpy) Smoot, 53, of Washington, died Saturday, March 2 at Life Care Center in New Market.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday at the Tumer-Robertshaw Funeral Home in Front Royal by the Rev. Steve Scoggin. Burial was in the Washington Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Smoot was born January 24, 1932, in Washington, son of the late George Thomas and Etta Bea French Smoot. He served with the U.S. Army during peacetime and was a farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Laura A. Smoot of Washington; one daughter, Joyce Ann Smoot of Washington; four sons, Larry E. Smoot of Charlottesville, David Lee Smoot of Culpeper, William Smoot and Randy Smoot, both at home and one grandchild.
Also surviving are six brothers, George Smoot, Harvey Smoot, Clabert Smoot and Billy Smoot, all of Washington, Arthur Smoot of Flint Hill and Bernard Smoot of Long Beach, Mississippi and four sisters, Sadie Foster of Washington, Annie Foster of Warrenton, Beatrice Fletcher and Carrie Kines, both of Front Royal.
Pallbearers were C.E. Giles, Jr., Charles Dodson, Silas Beahm, Jr., Bud Smoot, Arthur Smoot, Jr. and Wayne Smoot.
