“My Dinner With Andre” will be shown this Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10 at 7:30 at the Gay Stre'et Theatre in Washington. This unusual screenplay, in which two authors talk to one another over dinner, is created as highly entertaining cinema by director Louis Malle, as the suave and mystical Andre tells his friend Wally of his adventurous travels and experiences since they last met. A refreshing and satirical comedy. It’s rated PG.
Jaycees Meeting
The Rappahannock Jaycees will hold a meeting on Thursday, March 14 at Brambles Cafe. Social hour will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the regular meeting will start at 8 p.m.
Aerobic Dance Classes
A six-week series of aerobic dance classes will begin Monday, March 11. Morning classes will be on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. at the Flint Hill Fire Hall. Also in Flint Hill will be afternoon classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Evening classes will be at Rappahannock Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.
The fee is $20 for twice a week or $30 for unlimited attendance. New students are welcomed. Call Rose Ann Sharp at 675-3887 for more information.
Historical Society Speaker
William Thomas, director of the Germanna Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, will speak in Rappahannock on Friday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Washington Courthouse. The event is sponsored by the Rappahannock Historical Society.
Thomas will speak primarily about an archeological dig at the site of Governor Alexander Spotswood’s mansion called the “Enchanted Castle.” The home of the colonial governor was begun in 1721 and burned down in 1750. After a test dig conducted on the site in Spotsylvania County by the Virginia Landmarks Commission, the site was registered by the state as a landmark.
The site has also been included in the national register. A small portion of the main house has been uncovered, and extensive brickwork and 250 year old china pieces have been found by a group made up mostly of volunteers. The work will be resumed around May 1.
WSA Meeting
The Rappahannock County Water and Sewer Authority will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Washington Courthouse.
Rappahannock Lions Club
The Rappahannock Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13 at the Corner Post Restaurant.
