Rappahannock School Superintendent Robert Estabrook began his presentation of his proposal for the 198586 school budget with the humorous remark that the night would be the highlight of his year since he would get the chance to please everyone. It became clear by the end of the Tuesday night meeting that not all of the approximately 30 people present had been pleased with the Superintendent’s budget recommendations.
Estabrook outlined his thoughts on his responsibilities when preparing his budget proposal before he outlined the proposal. “I’m certain that as parents, teachers and simply those interested in education you would look to me to spell out as clearly as I can our needs,” Estabrook said. “I accept that responsibility, and I also believe that there is another kind of responsibility that comes to me and that is in view of those needs I do have to have some sense of what fiscal reality is.”
The first section of the proposed budget to be explained, by Estabrook was the capital outlay section. This includes the projected costs of the professional services of the architectural firm, the new buildings, additions and alterations to existing buildings involved in the expansion project at the high school, and another line item for furniture and equipment.
